The Way Forward

An initial draft of the Stakeholder Strategic Research Agenda (SRA) will be developed through the activities of eight Working Groups. After ratification by the Board, an Expert Consultation Meeting will be held in Brussels on February 2nd in order to seek comment, opinion and advice, set priorities and gain the commitment and support of those attending. The Stakeholder SRA draft will be revised in the light of comments received and submitted to the European Commission as the Stakeholder SRA in early March so as to feed into the timetable of the formal development of FP7.

However, if this ETP is to reflect the opportunities and challenges facing the whole of Europe, an extensive promotion and consultation will be necessary. To optimise support for the Stakeholder SRA the following strategies will be adopted:
  • a Web-based Consultation,
  • National Consultations of all stakeholders in all EU Member States, Associated Countries and Candidate Countries, and
  • a series of Regional Consultations.
The Stakeholder SRA will also be promoted through professional networks, CORDIS and other websites, at conferences, workshops and symposia and through the scientific and trade media. These processes will ensure that the SRA is flexible enough to address the interests and opportunities of all regions of Europe and that all stakeholders will have an opportunity to put forward their opinions and suggestions.

The proposed consultations will also support the interaction of food chain stakeholders at national and regional level, thereby underpinning similar activities at European level. The evolving plan for national and regional stakeholder consultation will be managed by the Horizontal Activities Working Group and if you would like further information or would be interested in hosting such a consultation event, please contact roger.fenwick@bbsrc.ac.uk

The results of all these processes will be considered in January/February 2007 and a final Strategic Research Agenda drafted, agreed by the Board and published and disseminated in March/April 2007. The Implementation Plan is planned to be published in December 2007.
